What Is The Point of Separation And Division? Why Do Some Individuals Set Barriers And Walls Against One Another?

Personal Interpretation: 💬⛔
- Separation and division are not and were never a topic of shock because history has proven otherwise and as of the present day, it continues to be a problem both physically and mentally. The idea of this so-called wall that separates individuals was brought up and built upon in the poem "Mending Wall" by Robert Frost proposes this idea of separation by choice between two neighbors. It is quite interesting to see how the author was contemplating the separation, while his neighbor believed that it was a necessity but in a way it also united. Unity by separation? That idea in itself is absurd in many ways 😨. The notion of maintaining unnecessary barriers raises many eyebrows. Thereby, this poem brings forth and encourages the readers to distinguish whether there are any benefits behind separation or if it is just a tradition that has been blindly followed by many for years.
In-Class Discussion & Experiences:💭👶
- This concept of divisions and separation was discussed and analyzed during class with many providing countless meaningful personal experiences, especially between this idea and the differences between the so-called fence and wall. The neighbor in the poem "Mending Wall" believes that the wall that separates him and the author is just a "fence" but in reality, it is a wall. Why is this idea so important? Fences are made in a way that gives them this gap in between. However, the neighbor believing that it was a "wall" with no loophole that was separating them, further shows that his mind was washed and blinded by the reality of the presumption of separation. As someone who had once lived in a house with no kind of wall or fences surrounding it, there was always this sense of freedom and liveliness that gave out a sense of life. Without feeling trapped behind these fences I was able to see further into the distance and take in the many beautiful scenery and ideas that would have never been possible if there had been a fence or wall built in place.
Thank you for your time ✌,
