What Is The Dark Truth Behind Crake's Motives & Did His Belief Of Jimmy Really Happen?

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Personal Interpretation: πŸ’¬πŸ‘»πŸ˜Ÿ

- Dating back to the earlier part of the story, it was clear that countless situations or thoughts hinted toward Crake being a sociopath. The idea of being unable to distinguish right or wrong despite Crake being a clear genius is quite concerning. It makes me wonder if parenting contributed to him being that way, despite Jimmy being the one who is average in every way but still completely understanding what is right or wrong in terms of human behaviors and beliefs. The thought of Crake watching his own mother die as she slowly evaporates and dissolves in that virus substance is beyond concerning for both the readers and his mental well-being. It is also crazy to think that instead of feeling remorse after watching such a horrifying scene, he seems to be curious about how the virus works rather than how his own mother died such a painful and non-existent death. Eventually, we will be able to see that despite Crake's sociopathic nature, he goes on to be extremely successful. Jimmy on the other hand struggles in life in every way possible. However, the interesting thing is that by leaving this world to Jimmy as a form of consequence, Crake thoughts that Jimmy would slowly rot away because it was within his nature to not do anything about the situations despite knowing clearly what is right or wrong. But Jimmy changed, just after humankind completely evaporated from the face of Earth. Although it took human extinction for him to change, which is unacceptable, in a way he was still able to prove Crake wrong but enforcing his practices on many of the creatures that Crake had created. Thinking about the idea of reflecting in general, I wonder if reflecting now would change who I am for the better or even worsen my already horrible traits. In a way, I somewhat reflect on Jimmy's state of being because why reflect now when a person can always reflect later? But later, the extinction of humans is outrageous, but who knows, that can actually happen any day because life is truly unpredictable. After all, nature could always end us if it wants to.

Class Discussions: πŸ˜†πŸ‘€πŸ‘

- During class, we had a discussion regarding different organizations that were established within the story and how they relate to certain companies in the real world as well. Although work slaves are indeed a really horrible thing, many individuals including myself never even consider that fact when it comes time to get a "Matcha Latte" or a "Spice Pumpkin Latte" at a nearby Starbucks. To us, history or the production state that led to such a sweet and aesthetically pleasing drink to buy was just a gust of wind once we got our hand on the thing we wanted. The harsh truth is dark and horrible, but what can we even do about it? Saying nothing is an exaggeration or even irresponsible but in a way it is also true because what can one person really do to change those harsh reality? Nothing. Because we are also slaves to many of the world's largest companies, what made someone think that we can save others who are struggling when we can't even escape or save ourselves? This is why I think the phrase "the rich stay rich, while the poor will remain poor" is because those who have money know what it takes to control the people in spending their hard-earned money like a literal "slave." They know what will catch our attention, what will please us inside and out like a book. We are trapped just like the so-called "slaves."

Thank you for your time ✌,
Kha
