What Is the Message Behind "Housewife" by Anne Sexton, "The House" by Warsan Shire, and The Idea of Misogyny Nowadays?

Personal Interpretation: 💭💬
- The two poems "Housewife" and "The House" both explore and convey this idea of the entrapment of being a woman and the many roles and choices that are embedded in them against their own will, but what in the world does that even mean? 😵 Well, to simply put it, women have always been trapped in this cycle of inequality ever since the late 1800s. To many, for something to not be truly solved for such a long time, creates this idea of being unrelenting. Meaning, that if the issues of women's rights have not been truly justified or put an end to, what makes them think that they can change it? This is why the idea of misogyny and women's rights will only continue to worsen because many will shy away since they believe that it is practically impossible to sway something that has been unswayable for hundreds of years to many extents. This is not to say that there has not yet been any progress in equality for women, but it is the fact that it has been going on for so long that living with inequality for women has now become a tradition and routine for them.
In-Class Discussion:👀🙌
- During class time, it heavily focuses on the idea of a woman's role once they were married, and how the idea of being a woman once married causes them to become a "role" rather than a "person" who they were once. I found this idea quite intriguing because being married contributes to a sense of unity and happiness as a mutual aspect, but for it to force women into being a "role," while men remain as a "person" is mind-blowing. The purpose of being married had changed from an entity of joy to a cage of permanent entrapment that a married woman cannot escape from. However, if that is the case, would the concept of marriage be a curse rather than a blessing? This is a question that has many different answers due to the simple fact that some are "woke" to the systematic ideas behind it, while others are generally clueless: led by nothing but blind love.
- Even though I am clueless when it comes to these types of topics, I tried my best to craft a thought-out blog around my takes on the ideas of misogyny and women equality.
Have a nice day ✌,
Kha
